Notes:
  • Where one individual dominated a group and also had hits in their own right these chart performances have been combined for the purposes of the above table.
  • In considering Michael Jackson we should also remember his significant, uncredited, contribution to The Jacksons / Jackson 5. In total, they had 24 hits, spending 173 weeks in the Top 40, including one at no.1.
  • In addition to hits as The Jacksons/Jackson 5 two individual members have successfully made the Top 40. Aside from Michael (see above), Jermain spent 20 weeks in the Top 40 through 3 hits.
  • Diana Ross' total includes her hits with The Supremes where she received a specific credit (Diana Ross & The Supremes). She performed on a further 9 of their hits (adding 85 more weeks including 2 at no. 1)
  • In addition to hits with his brother Donald, Philip Everly (of The Everly Brothers!) had two more (with Cliff Richard) adding 11 weeks to his total.
  • Fleetwood Mac became an Anglo-American band in 1976. Prior to this it had only British members. If the pre-American-joining hits are excluded the group does not register sufficient weeks in the Top 40 to qualify for the above chart (even if Lindsey Buckingham's and Stevie Nicks' solo hits are added on).
  • The Osmond family deserve a special mention. Though they don't qualify for the above chart in any individual guise, various combinations of The Osmonds / Donny / Donny & Marie / Little Jimmy have clocked up 27 hits spanning 243 weeks including 18 at no. 1 from 1972-1999.
